On Friday and Saturday, collectors from all over the world met in Incheba, Bratislava to prove that collecting is still a trending topic and, in many cases, also a lifelong hobby and passion.
Bratislava Collectors Days welcomed up to 180 exhibitors from more than 20 countries, whose portfolio included coins, banknotes, medals, postage stamps, postcards, antiques, minerals and semi-precious stones, telephone cards, badges, historical jewelry, as well as old books or vinyl records that were introduced at the fair for the very first time. In particular, the sale of zero-Euro souvenir banknotes aroused great interest among visitors. With the aim of buying them, some visitors were waiting for the opening of the fair already from Wednesday evening. The collector’s fair has been visited by more than 7,000 people, which represents the highest number in the last 16 years.
In addition to thousands of exhibits, the Bratislava Collectors Days also brought a variety of rare and extremely valuable pieces. Whether it was a gold medal with a portrait of cyclist Peter Sagan, a commemorative two-Euro coin with the motive of M.R. Štefánik, or the rare five-ducat of Leopold I. from 1676, whose value is currently more than 70 thousand Euros – all of them sparked great interest among visitors and media.
A number of attractions and accompanying activities have also been prepared by posts that regularly participate in the fair. On the occasion of the Bratislava Collector’s Days, Slovenská pošta issued a stamp with a personalized coupon, a postal ticket with an added press and occasional postmarks, whose motives feature the landmarks of Bratislava – the castle, the SNP Bridge and the Apollo Bridge. On the first day of the fair, the ceremonial inauguration of the postage stamp International Mathematical Olympiad was held with the participation of its authors, Ingrid Zamecnikova and Adrian Ferda. Among other things, Česká pošta showcased all Czech postage stamps that have been issued since 1993.
The diversity of the fair has ensured by an attractive accompanying program. As part of Children’s Post, little collectors could draw a postage stamp proposal, stamp, solve a brain-teaser, and become a postman. Those interested in consulting could take advantage of lectures, free expert advice and professional services in the field of collecting of stamps, coins, paper money, medals, awards and orders, numismatic literature and collectors’ aids under the auspices of the Slovak Numismatic Society and the Union of Slovak Philatelists.
Last but not least, a huge attraction was also an exhibition of the most precious Czechoslovak and Slovak stamps from collections of Slovak collectors.
